Ride in to the SLO Downtown Criterium Festival, this Sunday, July 5th

The SLO Downtown Criterium Festival is the capstone event for the Central Coast Cycling Classic weekend. The festival transforms four city blocks into a whimsical playground, putting smiles on faces of all ages. See San Luis Obispo's downtown in a different light as streets are closed to auto traffic and the crowds come out to enjoy the 'SLO' life. Experience the Chorro Fairway Expo, the Solstice GreenWay, Berserker Block - a go-kart and recumbent tricycle track, a kid's magic show, and more. Don't forget to ride in to the bike valet too!

$3 Million of Stimulus Funding Go to Biking and Walking in SLO County

In April, the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments ruled on how funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be spent in our region. We are happy to report that nearly 17% of it was programmed for bicycling and walking projects.  Included in the mix was $1.2 million for the Railroad Safety Trail between the Amtrak Station and Marsh Street in SLO. Other projects include the Pismo Beach boardwalk, new bike lanes on Main Street in Morro Bay and on Santa Rosa Ave in Atascadero. At the hearing, Bicycle Coalition Executive Director Adam Fukushima argued before the Council that bicycle and walking projects "are some of the most shovel ready projects in our region.  They create jobs, a greener economy, and promote a better quality of life here on the Central Coast."

Sharrows Debut on Monterey Street

We're excited to report that the City of San Luis Obispo has installed Sharrows on Monterey Street. In fact, we saw them put down paint right in front of our office. Sharrows, or shared lane markings, are designed for streets that aren't wide enough for a bike lane but need some kind of treatment so that bicyclists stay out of the door zone and motorists share the road. Watch our new video and get up to speed on everything sharrows. We're already noticing a more friendly Monterey Street.
